Office 365 Applications for Mac


Microsoft has great quick start guides for their Office suite for Mac. You can find these guides here on the Microsoft website. The videos below focus on Outlook for Mac if you’re considering switching from Apple Mail to Outlook.

Office 365 licenses and what they include

The tables below provides a quick look at what licenses allow users to install Office Apps on their PC, Mac, or Mobile devices and if they come with Exchange (emails, calendars etc). The product names and features can and will likely change overtime so if you aren’t sure what you required you can submit a ticket and ask

Business licenses

There are four plans available, these are the more common licenses that are applied to small to medium sized businesses. Below is a comparison with what license includes Exchange (emails), and the Office desktop apps:

Enterprise licenses

While the business licenses are more common, they do have some limitations. The business licenses allow you to only have up to a maximum of 300 users, unlike the enterprise licenses which allow you to have an unlimited number of users. Below is a a table of what enterprise licenses come with Exchange (emails), and the Office desktop apps:

Installing apps from Office 365 portal

Download Office 365 apps

  1. Go to https://portal.office365.com and sign in with your work email & password.

  2. Press the ‘Install Office‘ button, then select ‘Office 365 apps‘ to begin download.

  1. Once the previous download is complete, through Finder, go to your ‘Downloads‘ folder and double-click the ‘Microsoft Office installer.pkg‘ file (the name might vary slightly).


    Note – If you get an error that the installer can’t be opened due to it is from an unidentified developer, hold the ‘Control‘ button on your keyboard and double-click the installer again.

  2. On the first installation screen, select ‘Continue

  3. Select ‘Continue‘ on the software license agreement
  4. Select ‘Agree‘ on the terms of the software license agreement
  5. Leave the default options on the install page, and press ‘Install
  6. Enter your Mac login password if prompted, and then click ‘Install Software‘.

    If you don’t have admin rights to your laptop, you may need to enter an admin username & password instead.

  7. The installation process could take up to 10 minutes depending on your Mac. Once its finished, you can press ‘Close

  8. Lastly, the Mac may prompt you to move the installer to the bin. Select ‘Move to Bin‘ and you’re done.
